Focus and Scope
The Bulletin of the Geological Society of Greece is a peer-reviewed scientific journal of Earth Sciences published since 1953 by the Geological Society of Greece. The Bulletin of the Geological Society of Greece publishes peer-reviewed original scientific papers and review articles on all aspects of geosciences, such as: Tectonics, Structural Geology, Seismology, Natural Hazards, Geodynamics, Geomorphology, Physical Geography, Paleontology, Stratigraphy, Marine Geology, Paleoecology, Environmental Geology, Didactics, Paleoceanography, Quaternary Geology, Sedimentology, Sequence Stratigraphy, Geoheritage, Geoparks-Geotourism, Geophysics, Volcanology, Engineering Seismology, Petrology, Mineralogy and Crystallography, Geochronology, Geochemistry, Oceanography, Hydrogeology and Hydrology, Hydrochemistry, Geothermy, Economic Geology, Petroleum Geology, Remote Sensing, GNSS-Geodesy, Engineering Geology. The full text of the published papers is now published on a new e-publishing model, supported electronically by the National Documentation Centre (EKT). The Bulletin of the Geological Society of Greece is published at least twice per year. Submitted manuscripts must follow the “Bulletin of Geological Society of Greece” guidelines. Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two independent referees selected by the Editors. Referees’ reports are carefully considered by the Editors before making decisions concerning publication, major or minor revision or rejection. Each article will have an Article Citation DOI number. This unique article identifier will be visible on every page together with page number. As a result, all articles will have their full and final citation information available as soon as the production process is complete.
Peer Review Process
Submission of a manuscript implies that the article is original, unpublished and not submitted for publication elsewhere; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible institute where the work has been carried out. Papers are judged on the originality of their data, interpretations and ideas, and on the degree to which their findings can be generalized. We encourage papers that address emerging new fields. Editors select reviewers who have sufficient subject matter expertise to review the manuscript. All papers are subjected to peer reviews from at least two reviewers, which is the minimum number. Peer reviewers are ideally experts in their field. Articles accepted for publication are usually published in order of submission. In case of one of the peer reviewers reports conflicting feedback on the same manuscript, then the journal editor may choose to send the paper to a third reviewer before arriving at a decision, and the author may have to wait longer for the peer review process to be completed. Finally, journal editors or the journal editorial board consider the peer reviewers’ reports and make the final decision to accept or reject the manuscript for publication.
Publication Frequency
The Bulletin of the Geological Society οf Greece is published by the Geological Society of Greece, at least twice a year.
In case of Scientific Symposium or Scientific Conference a Special Volume may be issued. Such actions, will always be conducted according to the criteria applied by the Geological Society of Greece in its publications.
Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public contributes to global knowledge exchange. We encourage authors to deposit their articles, as well as data underlying the publications, in institutional and/or other appropriate subject repositories.
The Bulletin of Geological Society of Greece permits and encourages authors to archive the submitted article and/or the final author version and/or the final publication pdf in institutional (e.g. the repository of the National Hellenic Research Foundation) or other appropriate subject repositories (e.g. SSOAR repository for social sciences), in compliance with institutional and/or funder open access policies, both prior to and after publication in the Bulletin of Geological Society of Greece. Authors must provide bibliographic details that credit publication in the journal, as well as related funding details (when applicable).

ePublisher
The National Documentation Centre (www.ekt.gr) is a national infrastructure. Since 1980, it actively engages in the collection, organization and dissemination of scientific and technological information in Greece and internationally. EKT’s strategic priority is the aggregation, organized online dissemination and preservation of quality-assured scholarly and educational content in a single research infrastructure.
EKT’s vision is “Access to Knowledge”. To this end it implements Open Access policies in research, supports the transfer and dissemination of scientific knowledge, collaborates with research, education and cultural institutions for the aggregation, organization and dissemination of digital content and provides innovative services in scientific information.
EKT provides reliable ePublishing services as part of its scholarly content aggregation and dissemination activities . Its integrated online ePublishing environment is developed with open-source interoperable technology. This affords the incorporation of EKT’s infrastructures into the continuously developing international infrastructure environment.
EKT’s ePublishing services (http://epublishing.ekt.gr/) are directed to public and extended public institution publishers of accredited scholarly journals. They include, most significantly, the organization, documentation and organized dissemination of metadata and content of scholarly journals, the training and consulting services on issues such as intellectual property, the standardization of editorial processes according to internationally accepted standards, the inclusion of content and metadata in international content indexers and harvesters via interoperable systems.
Sources of Support
During the period 1953 until 2016, the Bulletin of the Geological Society of Greece was financed by the Geological Society of Greece. The publication of Special Issues was supported by the registration fees of the international conferences organized by the Society.
Journal History
The first edition, of the Bulletin of the Geological Society of Greece took place in 1953, and contained 14 papers under the name “Bulletin of the Geological Society of Greece”. The fact that the Santorini volcano had erupted just a few years ago (January 1950), prompted for the adoption of the Santorini outline as the logo of the Society. This historical logo has remained until today. Since then, the Bulletin is published for sixty three years, on annual basis, and covers a broad spectrum of publications in Geosciences, (paleontology, mineralogy, stratigraphy, geomorphology, tectonics, seismology, etc.). The publications report on the research results of local and foreign researchers who are active in the broader Hellenic territory. A significant part of the Bulletin of the Geological Society of Greece is the Special Volumes dedicated to the International Conferences organized by the Geological Society of Greece, which are held every three years. Since 1999, and following a Board decision, the annual Editions of the journal are bilingual (Greek and English).
