Abstract

Abstract: The incidence of Congenital Heart Disease in Fetal life has never been described before in Azerbaijan.
Aim of this study is to describe the incidence of CHD in a fetus population detected by a prospected multicenter study in Baku, Azerbaijan during a period of 7.5 years. Population and Method: We studied in three centers 1120 fetuses’ of 1019 pregnancies, that had been referred to us for further investigation.
Results: We examined by fetal Echocardiography – 2D, colure mapping, doppler, 1120 fetuses and detected 216 with CHD’s (19.35%). From these Complex (CDH) were: (153/69,53%) and the rest (69/30.47%) were simple defects. The most common complex CHD’s that were found was: c-AVSD (11.11%), ToF (9.32%), DORV (8.38%) and Tv atresia (8.38%). Among the most common simple forms of CHD were VSD’s (45/20.83%) mostly muscular (33/15.27), pulmonary valve stenosis (15/6.95%) and aortic valve stenosis (6/2.78%). Additionally, we detected (12/5.48%) fetal arrhythmias from which (6/2.74%) were transient tachycardia’s, (3/1,37%) was SVT that required treatment and (3/1.37%) sustained severe arrythmias (complete A-V block).
Conclusion: in a country with limited neonatal congenital heart disease surgical capacity, and a high prevalence of CHD, it is essential to have a practice of Fetal Cardiology to limit both mortality and morbidity by directing patients with critical and or severe forms of CHD, to be delivered in the appropriate centers that can address the exact needs of care.
