Abstract

The article examines the family models
and parental supervision in three European
countries; Great Britain, Sweden and Greece.
The results show (secondary data from the 1999
ESPAD study) that in Greece traditional family
models and high levels of parental supervision
of adolescents are signifi cantly more prevalent
than in Great Britain and Sweden. It is suggested
that cultural (individualism, collectivism) and
socio-political (Welfare State) differences,
between these three European countries, may
have an impact on the formation of the family
models and teenagers’ parental supervision.
