Special Issue on "Tethyan tectonics and the Greek ophiolites”

The Geological Society of Greece will be printing a special volume of the Bulletin of the Geological Society of Greece (BGSG: https://ejournals.epublishing.ekt.gr/index.php/geosociety) in honor of colleague and friend Alan Smith, 1937-2017.

Alan developed many of the original tenets of plate tectonic theory based on his studies of Greece. He was a pioneer of construction of paleocontinental maps and the continuing reinterpretation of the stratigraphic time-table. He was a recipient of the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki award for field studies in Greece in 2004.

We invite submission of papers that can be included within the Bulletin that match Alan’s range of interests. This means, they can be of almost any subject, as Alan’s range of interest and expertise was broad ranging. We expect that many of his students and colleagues will wish to contribute, but we also urge contributions from Greek colleagues who have benefited from his groundbreaking studies of Greek ophiolites and a “plate tectonic” way of thinking about geology.

Please submit papers you wish to be included in this volume to the BGSG Special-Issue Associate Editor, Dr Annie Rassios: rassannie@gmail.com

We wish to receive submissions by the end of March 2018. The volume will be in English, but we can aid translation of Greek-language contributions accepted for the volume.
