Abstract

This article attempts to approach some of the most basic and influential points of the theory of Longinus, author of the famous On the Sublime. The research, more specifically, is focused on the way in which sublime is, ultimately, not only a concept but also an action regarding both writing and reading. In this context, references are made to four authors – Homer, Thucydides, Plato and Demosthenes – who were points of reference and indicative cases of creators who, following their own path, met on a terrain where aesthetic perfection and superiority were at the forefront.
