Determination of feed values of dried apple and black carrot pulp in different forms
Abstract
Fruit pomace is usually obtained after processing fruits in fruit juice factories. Since the moisture content of the fresh pomace is quite high, it should be consumed quickly by animals. In recent years, it has become possible to preserve these pomace for longer periods by drying method. This study was conducted to determine the feed value of black carrot and apple pomaces that were commercially dried and converted into pellet form for the first time. For this purpose, dried black carrot and apple pomace and pellet forms were supplied Döhler®. The DM, ash, CP, NDF, ADF, IVDMD, ME and NEL values were determined in the pomaces. The CP of the poamces in dried black carrot pomace (DBCP) and pellet form, also dried applepomace (DAP) and pellet form were determined as 10.08±0.06, 9.77±0.09, 9.17±0.07 ve 7.47±0.09% respectively. The ash was higher in DBCP than pellets (p<0.05) and similar in apple pulp (p>0.05). NDF were determined as 40.95±0.77, 38.17±0.55 (p<0.05), 55.07±1.91 ve 51.50±2.14% (p>0.05) respectively; ADF were determined as 31.61±0.51, 29.50±0.49, 41.41±1.21 ve 37.81±1.24% respectively. The ADF value was higher in DBCP than pellet (p<0.05) and similar to that of apple pomaces (p>0.05). The IVDMD of the pomaces were calculated as 84.72±1.37, 87.75±1.18, 64.97±3.58 and 68.35±2.36% respectively, and the ME were calculated as 3.39±0.06, 3.54±0.05, 2.43±0.17 and 2.60±0.11 Mcal/kg, respectively. IVDMD, ME and NEL values of all pomaces were similar (p>0.05). While the CP, NDF, ADF contents of the DBCP used in the study were higher than those of the pellet form, the CP and ADF contents of DAP were determined to be higher than those of the pellet form. In conlusion, it was determined that both pomaces can be used as a good energy source in ruminants. For this purpose, animal trials are needed in which black carrot and apple pulps in dry and pellet forms will be substituted with energy source feedstuffs.
