Call for papers and portfolio submissions

Following the successful launch of Vol.1 which was focused on the topic “The entrancement of Ruins”, Vol. 2 is an open-themed issue that aims to cover a broad spectrum of academic research on arts, culture and design, exploring the dynamic and ever–evolving interdependencies between act and artefact, human and society, identity and community, technological advancement and heritage, academic practice and professional trade.

With this outlook, authors are invited to submit research papers, portfolios, book reviews or projects that comply with the stated objectives of the journal, namely
• to connect theories, aesthetics, processes, social approaches and actual products from related areas of applied arts and design.
• to point out human aspects and culture, as central issues through interdisciplinary approaches
• to offer a platform for high-quality research, arts, practice and education.
• to support the dialogue between academics, researchers and professionals of similar fields concerning culture
• to highlight learning strategies and educational methods in design and applied arts fields
• to highlight new developments, practices and tools
• to highlight experiential approaches and creativity

Deadline for article and portfolio submissions: July 9th 2021.


Manuscript submissions (articles & book reviews)

For general guidance on every stage of the publication process, please visit our Author Guidelines section. Further instructions on the structure and format of submissions are provided on the following MS Word template (.docx). These instructions are specific to vol. 2 of the Journal and thus supersede those availabe in the general Author Guidelines section. Authors are kindly asked to follow them to the letter.

We only accept text files or files in .doc or .docx format (such as from Microsoft Word or Open Office). It is expected that authors will submit carefully written and proofread material. Spelling and grammatical errors, as well as language usage problems, are not acceptable in the final submission.

There is no strict limitation to the length of the articles, but a typical paper should extend no more thatn 10 pages or 8,000 words, with a minimum count of 2,500 words on the lower end.  Tables, references, figure captions, footnotes, endnotes are not included in the word count.

Papers should clearly describe the background of the subject, the afiliation to the authors' previous research (if any), including the methods used, and concluding discussion on the importance of the work. Papers are to be prepared in English. Technical terms should be explained. Acronyms should be spelled out at their first mention.

 

Portfolio & Artwork submisions

The Journal accepts artists' portfolio submissions and project presentations primarily related but not limited to painting, drawing, printmaking, typography, sculpture, architectural design, photography, graphic design, graffiti, animation, art, installations, public art, and audiovisual media. We are mainly interested in artwork that addresses the broad concept of space, both as a cultural convention and as encapsulating physical environment, as well as the formative role of the art media and processes within. All submissions are required to present a solid theoretical foundation that should be described in an accompanying text and will be double-blind peer-reviewed upon that basis.

About the Journal

The International Journal Arts | Culture | Design is a digital open access and peer-reviewed multidisciplinary journal, published by Design, Interior Architecture and Audiovisual Documentation lab of the Faculty of Applied Arts and Culture of the University of West Attica Greece in cooperation with the: University of Nicosia Cyprus, ESAD Porto Portugal, ESD Madrid Spain, National University of Arts Bucharest Romania, Academy of Fine Arts Gdansk Poland. The journal is hosted in the open access e Publishing platform of the National Documentation Centre of Greece (EKT).

This journal is biannual (with regular and from time-to-time special issues) and publishes research articles, projects and portfolios, as well as book reviews and student works. It aims to provide an academic forum for sharing and connecting ideas, projects and findings about design, applied arts and culture. This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

All articles, portfolios and reviews will be double blind peer reviewed. The official language is English. All the published works are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. This permits anyone to copy, redistribute, remix, transmit and adapt the work provided the original work and source is appropriately cited. This journal does not charge submission or publication fees.
