Submission Preparation Checklist


As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Before submission please ensure that you have prepared your material according to the journal guidelines and that you have current and accurate e-mail addresses for each author.

Please note that revisions to manuscripts that were not initially submitted to the website, should be sent as an e-mail attachment to the editor’s e-mail address.

A cover letter should be submitted with your manuscript and must include a statement that the data have not been published, and are not under consideration for publication elsewhere. It will be presumed that all listed authors of a manuscript have agreed to the listing and have seen and approved the manuscript.

Contributions (articles, in English or French, of up to 10,000 words) should be submitted via the

Manuscript Central site (instructions above). PUBLIC REALM follows Chicago Manual of Style. Please place all references in footnotes and model your format according to the aforementioned style.

Authors must agree that copyright in their articles accepted for publication will automatically be registered with PUBLIC REALM. Authors of articles containing copyright material, such as photographic reproductions, must provide the Editor with proof of the copyright holder’s permission to reproduce the material before the article can be published in the journal.

Author biographies:  Please supply a short biographical note of up to 50 words when submitting your manuscript. This will appear alongside your article when it is published in the journal.

Abstracts and keywords: Authors are required to supply an abstract to appear at the beginning of their article (this should be no more than 100 words and provide an informative summary of the conceptual content of the article). Authors should also supply 6-8 keywords relating to their article.
