Esclaves à Constantinople au Xe siècle: le témoignage de la Vie de saint Basile le Jeune
L'objet de cet article est délimité par les mentions sur l'esclavage byzantin contenues dans sept récits, tirés de la Vie de Saint Basile le Jeune. Leurs données, concernant le travail, les affranchissements, le mariage et le commerce des esclaves, sont commentées d'après la législation et le droit canon. Nous constatons que la loi est généralement suivie et même, dans certains cas, de légères transgressions qui favorisent les esclaves.
