Abstract

Ο Εκκλησιαστής αποτελεί μια πρωταρχική, ίσως την πρώτη τόσο καθαρά αλογόκριτη εξομολόγηση κάποιου που αναζητεί απεγνωσμένα το νόημα των πραγμάτων σε δρόμους ανεξερεύνητους μέχρι τότε σε κοινωνικό και δημόσιο πλαίσιο. Το άρθρο αυτό επιχειρεί να φωτίσει την έννοια του νοήματος με βάση το έργο του Keefer, ο οποίος προσέγγισε το κείμενο στηριγμένος στη διάκριση ψυχολογικού και φιλοσοφικού νοήματος και στις τρεις συνιστώσες του νοήματος (συνέπεια, σημασία και σκοπό) κατά τους Martela και Steger. Η μελέτη του Keefer κάνει σαφές ότι ο θάνατος είναι το οριστικό εμπόδιο για την επίτευξη ενός απόλυτου σκοπού, ενώ συγχρόνως η ηθική ασυνέπεια μεταξύ ανθρωπίνων δράσεων και αποτελεσμάτων αποδυναμώνει την όποια συνοχή. Εντούτοις αυτές οι τραγικές συνειδητοποιήσεις μπορούν να αποτελέσουν το κίνητρο μιας στάσης ζωής «carpe diem», συγκροτώντας τελικά έναν περιορισμένο στόχο για την παρούσα ζωή.  Το άρθρο καταλήγει μέσω των προβληματισμών που τίθενται στον Εκκλησιαστή πως ως νόημα μπορεί να ιδωθεί η χαρά (ή η οδύνη) της αναζήτησης υπό την προϋπόθεση ότι αυτή δεν θα καταλήξει ποτέ, γιατί οποιαδήποτε κατάληξη θα είχε ως συνέπεια τον τερματισμό της αναζήτησης και την επακόλουθη αναίρεση του νοήματος.
