About the Journal


The ejournal "Synochi" is the scientific journal of the research Lab "Church and Culture: Patristic Thought on the Relationship between Church Tradition and Cultural Challenges as Factors of Peaceful Coexistence and Cohesion", which belongs to the Department of Theology at the School of Theology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). Editorial director is the Very Revd. Dr. Aristarchos (Vasileios) Gkrekas (Associate Professor)­­­­­­­­­.

The purpose of the Lab is: (a) To meet the educational needs of the Department in matters of Church and Culture in the fields of education and training of theologians, as well as other interested parties from the academic community and research. (b) To deepen the understanding of patristic thought regarding the relationship between church tradition and cultural challenges as factors of peaceful coexistence and cohesion of societies and peoples. (c) To conduct research of all kinds, with references to both the past and the present, on the dynamic relationship between Church and Culture in the building of peace.

The Laboratory will also serve teaching and research needs in the following areas of study: (a) History of Dogma and Symbolism, (b) Ecclesiastical Literature and Theology, (c) Patrology, (d) Orthodox Theology and the Ecumenical Movement.
