Author Biographies
Demetrios J. Plessas, University of Michigan

Dr. Plessas is an Associate Professor of Environmental Planning
and Director of the Program in Environmental Planning
at the School of Public Health, The University of Michigan. He
holds degrees in Economics, Urban Planning, and Resource
Planning and Conservation and has for the past three years
undertaken research in the areas of environmental policy, the
development of social indicators, and the application of economic
theory to environmental problems. He has also served
as a Consultant to the Office of the Secretary, Department
of Health, Education, and Welfare, to the National Bureau
of Standards, and to the Environmental Health Service—a
precursor of the Environmental Protection Agency.

Climis A. Davos, University of Michigan

Mr. Climis A. Davos was born in Athens, Greece in 1940. He
holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Statistics
from the Athens Graduate School of Economics and Business
Science (1962), and a Master of Arts degree in Econometrics
and Decision Theory from the University of Manchester,
England (1967). In 1971 he was enrolled in the University of
Michigan for a program in Systems Analysis of Governmental
Policies leading to the degree of Philosophy Doctor. His postgraduate
studies have been sponsored by the Universities of
Harvard and Michigan, USA. During the years 1963-1966 he
served in the Greek Army and worked with the Center of Planning
and Economic Research, Athens. He spent the years 1968-
1971 working for Doxiadis Associates Inc. as a Senior Economist
participating, mainly, in the projects: (i) Emergence and
Growth of an Urban Region: The Developing Urban Detroit
Area; and (ii) The Developing Great Lakes Megalopolis Research
Project.
