Focus and Scope
The scientific and research fields of the journal
The creation of audiovisual and interactive applications and as well as their use in the educational and cultural sector, includes a series of scientific fields, which they co-exist and reassure the completion of their theoretical development and their application. In addition to this, the members of the International Scientific Committee and the editorial Committee are qualified researchers and academics, whose interests and objectives are aligned and expressed through the journals’ fields and sectors.
Specifically, the scientific and research fields in this journal, comprise of theoretical tools and applications in the themes below:
- The animation art in varied fields (such as documentary, informational animation etc)
- Educational films
- Interactive applications of augmented and virtual reality, with an educational and cultural aim
- Serious purposed gamified applications
- Good practices of applications
What the journal includes
“AFIMEC” includes two main sections :
- Theory with an interdisciplinary and intra scientifically approach (theoretical articles, original research papers and scientific papers in the fields of audiovisual -film and animation- and interactive media-multimedia and gaming, are published)
- Practice ( case studies, good practices of creating and practicing audiovisual and interactive applications in education and culture)
Furthermore, the journal will welcome and publish in special edition issues, books’ critical reviews and translations, as well as presentation of conferences, seminars, conventions and educational activities.
Peer Review Process
There are 2 stages of review:
- the first stage has to do with the proof-editing, spelling mistakes, syntax, in accordance with the guidelines and the submission form
- the second stage has to do with the content review
each review stage takes up to 4 weeks
Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Sources of Support
ASIFA HELLAS - Hellenic Animation Association, the Greek chapter of ASIFA International, launched its activity in 2008, aiming at networking professionals and promoting animation in Greece. Since 2015 it has become a registered not-for-profit organisation, with a large array of promotional actions on Greek Animation worldwide, with the support of the Greek government and independent institutions.
ePublisher
The National Documentation Centre (www.ekt.gr) is a national infrastructure. Since 1980, it actively engages in the collection, organization and dissemination of scientific and technological information in Greece and internationally. EKT’s strategic priority is the aggregation, organized online dissemination and preservation of quality-assured scholarly and educational content in a single research infrastructure.
EKT’s vision is “Access to Knowledge”. To this end it implements Open Access policies in research, supports the transfer and dissemination of scientific knowledge, collaborates with research, education and cultural institutions for the aggregation, organization and dissemination of digital content and provides innovative services in scientific information.
EKT provides reliable ePublishing services as part of its scholarly content aggregation and dissemination activities . Its integrated online ePublishing environment is developed with open-source interoperable technology. This affords the incorporation of EKT’s infrastructures into the continuously developing international infrastructure environment.
EKT’s ePublishing services (http://epublishing.ekt.gr/) are directed to public and extended public institution publishers of accredited scholarly journals. They include, most significantly, the organization, documentation and organized dissemination of metadata and content of scholarly journals, the training and consulting services on issues such as intellectual property, the standardization of editorial processes according to internationally accepted standards, the inclusion of content and metadata in international content indexers and harvesters via interoperable systems.
