Abstract

This paper presents a simple way for high school students to create an AR experience, by using their mobile phone or camera, image editing software, and an online AR development platform. More specifically, the students will be asked to shoot a panoramic 360o photo of a point of interest from their hometown and create an AR application, which will project this panorama onto user’s environment enriched with some informative data. This paper also compares the technologies of stand-alone AR applications and web-based AR applications, introduces four of the most known web AR platforms, and inquires if they are suitable for this purpose. Finally, the development process is presented, using the web-based platform Blippar.
