Abstract

Recent trends in music education focus on the ways in which the arts are connected with contemporary and emerging technologies, shaping both teaching practices and the knowledge and skills required for 21st-century learners. Within this context, digital storytelling and animation emerge as dynamic approaches and instructional strategies, offering potential for new pathways and innovative forms of music teaching and learning. This article explores the role and added pedagogical value of digital storytelling and animation in music education, focusing on enhancing soft skills and cultivating media literacy. Through the lens of multimodal and transdisciplinary learning within a STEAM educational framework, the paper analyzes how these two pedagogical applications incorporate audiovisual elements and promote students’ creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. Drawing on examples of educational applications, the article highlights the integration of music with technology and digital storytelling practices, as well as the possibilities offered by coding-based learning environments for the development of multimedia projects. At the same time, it addresses the pedagogical challenges related to instructional design, assessment, and teacher training.
