About the Journal

Aνθρωπολογίες/Anthropologies  is an open-access journal published annually, featuring original works in Greek and English. It employs a double-anonymous peer review process and seeks to foster dialogue across diverse theoretical and methodological approaches while facilitating encounters between anthropologists and broader audiences.

The journal welcomes contributions in the following categories:

1) Research Articles (between 6,000 and 8,000 words): Scholarly works that advance ethnographic knowledge and anthropological theory. These submissions undergo a double-anonymous peer review process.

2) Multimedia/Multimodal Papers (up to 4,000 words): Contributions incorporating methodological tools and media such as video, photography, sound, etc., which will also be reviewed through a double-anonymous process.

3) Essays (up to 3,000 words) and Commentaries (up to 1,500 words): Reflections on current issues, analyzed from an anthropological perspective.

4) Encounters (up to 3,000 words): Interviews with anthropologists, as well as with professionals from other disciplines.

5) Reviews (up to 2,000 words): Critical appraisals of books, films, doctoral theses, performances, exhibitions, music publications, and similar works.

6) Translations: Previously published articles in languages other than Greek may be submitted for translation.

7) Special Issues: Curated by the editorial board or submitted as proposals to the board. Special issues consist of 4 to 6 articles and include an introductory piece authored by the  guest editors.

PERIODICITY

Aνθρωπολογίες/Anthropologies is published annually and follows a publish-as-you-go model, allowing for the pre-publication of individual articles until the full issue is finalized and released. Special Issues are considered supplementary and are published on an ad hoc basis. Therefore, in the case of a Special Issue submission, the journal reserves the right to publish more than one issue per year.

DOUBLE-ANONYMOUS PEER REVIEW PROCESS

The publication of research articles, multimodal papers, and Special Issues is subject to a double-anonymous peer review process conducted in two stages:

  1. Initial Evaluation: The Editorial Committee assesses whether the submitted papers meet the journal’s requirements and merit further review.
  2. Peer Review: Papers that pass the initial evaluation are reviewed by two anonymous referees based on criteria such as quality, originality, clarity, methodology, and structure. Reviewers provide suggestions and corrections to enhance the paper’s quality.

Following the review process, the Editorial Committee classifies submissions into the following categories:

  • Accepted: The paper is well-written, clearly argued, and makes an original contribution to anthropology. It is approved for publication without further revision.
  • Accepted with Minor Revisions: The paper is approved with minor edits.
  • Accepted with Major Revisions: The paper requires significant revisions before publication.
  • Revise and Resubmit: The paper requires extensive revisions and must be resubmitted for a new round of anonymous evaluation.
  • Rejected: The paper does not meet the journal’s standards and will not be considered for publication.

Essays, commentaries, interviews, reviews, and translations of previously published foreign-language articles are not subject to the double-anonymous review process. These submissions are evaluated by the Editorial Board.

SPECIAL ISSUES

The journal reserves the right to publish Special Issues, either by invitation or upon submission of a proposal to the Editorial Committee. Special Issues contain 4 to 6 articles and are accompanied by an introduction by the guest editors. Articles in Special Issues undergo a double-anonymous peer review process coordinated by the Editorial Committee.

ETHICAL PUBLISHING PRACTICES

Submissions must be original and unpublished elsewhere. Any use or adaptation of material from other works must include proper attribution to the original sources. Citations should follow the Ανθρωπολογίες/Anthropologies Guide to Citations and References, ensuring transparency and verification of data. Plagiarism or failure to acknowledge another researcher’s work may result in a request for revision or, in severe cases, the withdrawal of a published article. The views expressed in published texts are solely those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect those of the journal or its editorial team. Authors retain copyright, while all rights to the electronic version of the publication belong to the journal’s publisher, SKAE.
