Submission Preparation Checklist


As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Submission Preparation Checklist

Before submitting a paper to the journal, authors must ensure that their submission meets the following criteria. Submissions that do not comply may be returned to the author(s) for revision.

  • The article is an original work, has not been previously published, and has not been submitted for review or publication elsewhere, in either print or electronic format.
  • The article does not infringe on any third party’s copyright.
  • I have read and accepted the Copyright Policy of the journal.
  • Where possible, URL links to references accessible online are provided in the footnotes, formatted as direct hyperlinks (e.g., http://pkp.sfu.ca).
  • I have read the Instructions for Authors and agree to comply with the journal's guidelines.

Instructions for Authors

Ανθρωπολογίες/Anthropologies publishes only original work relevant to the field of anthropology. Submitted papers must not have been published in another journal or book and must adhere to internationally recognized academic standards.

Submission Process

  • Authors must register on the journal's platform before submitting a paper.
  • Papers must be submitted electronically through the platform.
  • The length of the submission must not exceed the word limit assigned to its category.
  • Submissions should be formatted in 12-point font, double-spaced, and written in a word processing program (e.g., MS Office, Open Office).

In-Text Citations and Bibliographical References

Ανθρωπολογίες/Anthropologies follows a modified APA (American Psychological Association) citation style. For details, refer to:

In-text Citation Guidelines

  • Single-author reference: (Green, 2020, p. 33)
  • Reference to a work of two authors: (Butler and Athanasiou, 2013 )
  • Multiple-author reference: (Demetriou, 2013; Papailias, 2015) (use a semicolon to separate authors)
  • Consecutive citation of the same source: (ibid., p. 105) (for immediate repetition)
  • Non-consecutive citation of the same source: (Georges, ibid., p. 389)
  • Page number format: Always use p. whether citing a single page or multiple pages.

It should be listed at the end of the paper in alphabetical order.

Accompanying Materials

Submissions must be accompanied by the following:

  1. a) An abstract in English (up to 100 words).
    b) Whenever possible, an abstract in Greek (up to 100 words).
    c) The full name(s) of the author(s) and the paper's title.
    d) The author(s)’ academic title(s) in both Greek and English, along with their email address(es).
    e) Keywords: Up to five keywords should be included after the abstracts

Submissions that do not adhere to these guidelines will not be accepted.
All submissions are subject to plagiarism checks.

 Copyright Statement

Authors retain the copyright of their articles while granting Ανθρωπολογίες/Anthropologies the right of first publication. Articles published in the journal are licensed under a Creative Commons 4.0 license, allowing free use with proper attribution to the author(s) and the original publication, strictly for non-commercial purposes.

The National Documentation Center reserves the right to publish, reproduce, publicly display, distribute, and use articles from Ανθρωπολογίες/Anthropologies in any medium or format, either individually or as part of collective works, for the full duration of copyright protection and across all jurisdictions. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Publishing articles in issues of Ανθρωπολογίες/Anthropologies
  • Reproducing and distributing individual copies of articles.
  • Republishing full articles in other publications of the National Center for Social Research.
  • Storing and distributing articles or abstracts via digital repository systems.

Research articles


Research Articles (between 6,000 and 8,000 words): Scholarly works that advance ethnographic knowledge and anthropological theory. These submissions undergo a double-anonymous peer review process.

Multimedia/Multimodal essays


Multimedia/Multimodal Papers (up to 4,000 words): Contributions incorporating methodological tools and media such as video, photography, sound, etc., which will also be reviewed through a double-anonymous process.

Essays and Commentaries


Essays (up to 3,000 words) and Commentaries (up to 1,500 words): Reflections on current issues, analyzed from an anthropological perspective.

Interviews


Encounters (up to 3,000 words): Interviews with anthropologists, as well as with professionals from other disciplines.

Reviews


Reviews (up to 2,000 words): Critical appraisals of books, films, doctoral theses, performances, exhibitions, music publications, and similar works.

Translations


Translations: Previously published articles in languages other than Greek may be submitted for translation. 

Special Issues


Special Issues: Curated by the editorial board or submitted as proposals to the board. Special issues consist of 4 to 6 articles and include an introductory piece authored by the  guest editors.
