Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.

Author Guidelines

AKTINOTECHNOLOGIA is the official journal of STAAE. It aims to document scientific and research activity in fields of radiographic science, including diagnostic imaging, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, and related sciences. The journal accepts submissions for publication:

  1. Editorials: Short comments and opinions on topical issues. They are written at the invitation of the Editorial Board.
  2. Reviews: Comprehensive analyses of recently revised topics or topics of general interest. Reviews written by up to two authors are accepted.
  3. Original research: Scientific reports of unpublished results from original clinical research, including clinical trials, experimental or non-experimental studies, and retrospective or prospective studies, conducted based on a research protocol.
  4. Interesting cases: Brief reference to new or rare diseases and syndromes, new diagnostic or therapeutic criteria or methods with reported outcomes.
  5. Diagnostic imaging techniques: Brief description of a novel technique or modification of an existing one.
  6. Continuing education topics: Written by assignment.
  7. Seminars, roundtable discussions, lectures.
  8. Debates: Includes brief medical history, case-related images and a commentary focusing on the differential diagnostic approach to the case.
  9. Radiological exercises: Multiple choice or image exercises.

AKTINOTECHNOLOGIA adheres to the latest guidelines recommended by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors for writing manuscripts submitted for review and publication. These guidelines ensure publishing consistency, both within the journal and with other biomedical journals. The guidelines can be found in the articles:

International Committee of Medical Journal Editors. Uniform requirements for manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals. An Intern Med 1988, 108:258-265

Uniform requirements for manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals. JAMA 1993, 269:2282-2286.

Articles submitted for publication should be original, and not previously published or submitted to any other journals. However, preliminary announcements of the work may be included in the paper. Authors must indicate whether the paper is being submitted for the first time or has been submitted or published elsewhere. In the case of the latter, copies of the previous publication should be submitted alongside the new article for evaluation.

AUTHORSHIP

Each author must have made a substantial contribution to the work and is responsible for its content. Authorship meets three conditions:

  1. conceptualisation,
  2. study design, and
  3. data analysis.

MANUSCRIPT STRUCTURE

The first page must include the following information:

Article title: The title should be concise and informative using terms that can be easily indexed.

Author names: The full names of the authors (last name, first name). Each author's last and first name are followed by an exponent and a comma, which separates the information of each author. The exponent corresponds to each author's department and organization/institution in separate rows below author names. If two authors belong to the same department and organization/institution, they will have the same exponent.

Abstract: The abstract should not exceed 250 words and include the following sections: Aim, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusions. Abbreviations of terms should be avoided in the abstract.

Keywords: Authors should provide 3-5 keywords, to facilitate the article indexing.

Corresponding author: Name, address, telephone number and e-mail of the author, who is responsible for communication.

The main text of the manuscript begins on the second page, and includes:

Article title (repeated)

Introduction: This section introduces the background and purpose of this study. It is written in the present tense and does not refer to results or conclusions. Its length should not exceed 180 words.

Materials and methods: In this section the research protocol, the applied techniques, the place and selection of patients, volunteers or any other material utilised are recorded. The methodologies used, including statistical methods, are properly documented. A brief description of methodologies, that have been published but are not widely known, is sufficient. A comprehensive analysis of new methodologies is required. If conducting research involving humans, it is necessary to report how the authors ensured ethical compliance with the Declaration of Helsinki and state law.

Results: The outcomes of a study are analysed. They should be in a logical order and written in the past tense. They can be displayed in tables, diagrams, or detailed in the text. It's important not to repeat the data of the tables in the text. When presenting statistics, it's necessary to reference the statistical method used. The measurements should be in International System (IS) units. For further details, the authors are referred to the journal IATRIKI 1980, 37:139.

Discussion: The conclusions and perspectives from the study are described. Avoid repeating what has been mentioned in the introduction and highlight the similarities and differences with other similar works. The results are linked to the study objectives while avoiding making arbitrary conclusions. Reviews can include distinctive sections. If there are any interesting cases, they should include a brief introduction, case description, and commentary. Diagnostic techniques should also follow a similar structure.

References: The Vancouver citation system is followed. The in-text citations are numbered with Arabic numbers, according to the order of their appearance in the text. The reference list includes only the citations mentioned in the text. The corresponding text number precedes each reference in the list. References cited in tables or figure titles are numbered similarly. If the author names are mentioned in the text, the first author's last name is followed by the abbreviation "et al". If there are two authors, the conjunction "&" is placed between the surnames.

In the reference list, citations of the text should be listed in the order of their appearance in the text. They should include the surnames and initials of all authors, for not more than six. If there are more than six authors, only the first three should be listed, followed by "et al". Next, include the title of the article, the journal name abbreviation, the year of publication, the volume, and the first and last page numbers. Journal title abbreviations can be found in the US National Library of Medicine's annual publication "List of Journals Indexed in Index Medicus". For books and monographs, include the title, city, publisher, year of publication, and page numbers. Accepted articles at the publication stage (not published) can also be included with the note "under publication" after the journal title. Avoid citing personal communications, abstracts, and unpublished observations. The reference number should not exceed 120 for review articles, 35 for original research papers, and 10 for editorials, interesting cases, and diagnostic techniques.

TABLES

The tables are included on a separate page. They are numbered in the order they appear in the text, with Arabic numbers. They should have a short and comprehensive title. Each column has a short heading. Explanations of abbreviations, including statistical symbols and other clarifications are written below the table. Use only horizontal lines and avoid vertical lines.

IMAGES

Figures, diagrams, histograms or photographs of 300 dpi minimum resolution. The images must be placed at the point of the text, where they are mentioned.  They are numbered at the bottom with Arabic numbers in order of appearance in the text, followed by a short description (caption). The photos and shapes included in figures must be clear, to remain easy to read in case of image resizing. The names or faces of patients must not be visible. Otherwise, the patient's written consent is required to publish the image.

MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION

The text in Word format, including tables and images, is submitted for review through the submission platform. One of the authors must have an active account for the journal AKTINOTECHNOLOGIA.

Manuscripts are no longer accepted via e-mail or postage to STAAE physical address.

When submitting a manuscript, the corresponding author must provide a cover letter with a statement confirming that the manuscript has been reviewed and approved by all authors, has not been published previously, and is not currently under review by another journal.

Each manuscript undergoes a double-blind peer review. A decision from the Editor-in-Chief and reviewers is made for the manuscript's acceptance (with or without changes) or rejection. The authors are informed within 4 weeks about the acceptance or rejection of their manuscript.

MANUSCRIPT ACCEPTANCE

After receiving the reviewers' suggestions, the authors must make the suggested changes and proofread for any spelling and grammar errors before resubmitting the manuscript. At this stage, the authors must not proceed to changes, not requested by reviewers. The revised manuscript must be resubmitted through the online platform within 3 weeks, otherwise, it is considered withdrawn.
