About us
The American Yearbook of International Law (AYIL) is an annual publication containing original contributions on issues in international law (public, private, etc.).
The Yearbook aims at contributing to the development of thought, standard-setting and relevant practices throughout the world.
The Yearbook provides annual papers/reports on new developments and researchers in international law.
The AYIL publishes contributions written in english in order to reach the largest possible international audiences.
The Yearbook is open to active practicioners of international law on a regular basis from all over the world.
The AYIL do not accept comments of international cases and issues of European Union law.
Submissions
The AYIL welcome articles on critical legal studies, in particular those emanating from international economic law, international criminal law and theory of international law.
Papers should be no shorter than 5000 words.
All the papers will be reviewed by the editorial board in addition to anonymous reviewers and external experts to assess their quality and contribution to academic debates.
AYIL author style requires: Title of the paper, abstract, key words, references.
Submissions and publications are free of charge.

Submission preparation checklist
-As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
-The submitted paper is original, has not been published in the past and is not currently submitted for evaluation and publication elsewhere.
-The paper has been formatted on the template provided by the journal and follows the guidelines outlined in it.
-The submitted research does not violate in any way the ethical principles of scientific research. The Editorial Committee maintains the right to ask for additional information concerning the ethics committee permission and the guidelines followed during the organisation and the implementation of the research.
-The submitted manuscript does not violate in any way the intellectual property rights of third parties. Where the reproduction of copyrighted content is required and where a psychometric instrument has been administered, the authors have requested and obtained the relevant permission from the legal copyright holders.
-All authors approve the submission of the paper for publication in our Yearbook. They also approve the exact content and form of the submitted paper, as well as the exact order in which their names appear in the paper.
-The Authors provide the Yearbook with the exclusive license to take all necessary actions, including the availability of the paper to a third party, so that it can be published or republished, on the Internet or in any other way.
-The Authors have registered for an ORCID ID. Author ORCIDs as well as all required metadata will be entered in the appropriate field during the submission process.
Cost of publication
Our Yearbook has a Platinum Open-Access policy. The authors are not charged with any submission, processing, production, or publication costs. Their work can be openly accessed and shared immediately after publication.
Peer review policy
AYIL is based on a double blind peer review process to secure the quality, validity and academic integrity of its content. Submitted manuscripts will be assessed by the Editor (or the Editors) to ensure on the one hand that they fall within the scope of the Journal, and on the other that they abide by the academic standards the Journal embraces. Manuscripts that meet the Yearbook’s criteria follow the standard procedure of peer review process, i.e. blind review by at least two independent expert reviewers. However, the final decision concerning the acceptance for publication rests to the Editor.
Open access policy
AYIL provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public contributes to global knowledge exchange. We encourage authors to deposit their articles, as well as data underlying the publications, in institutional and/or other appropriate subject repositories.
Publication ethics
AYIL is strongly committed to publishing original, high-quality research content. To this purpose all editorial operations of the Yearbook abide by rigorous ethical standards that guarantee transparency and fairness of publication, are in full accordance with the standards adopted by the National Documentation Center. In particular, the Yearbook’s core practices and policies are fully aligned with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) document, that is accessible at:

We expect that all authors, reviewers, editors and readers, as well as anybody else involved in the publication process, thoroughly understand and accept the Yearbook’s publication ethics.
Responsibilities of authors
-All manuscripts must be previously unpublished either in print or in electronic form, and not under consideration for publication in another Yearbook/Journal.
-All manuscripts must be original work of the authors. Plagiarized manuscripts will not be accepted.
-Authorship of a manuscript should be limited to only authors who have made a significant contribution to the work.
-Authors shall disclose all financial or other conflict of interests that might influence the results of the manuscript and acknowledge individuals or organizations that have provided financial support for the research.
-To the best of the author's knowledge the article does not defame any person, does not invade the privacy of any person, and does not in any other manner infringe upon the rights of any person.
-To the best of the author's knowledge the article does not in any way violate intellectual property rights of third parties. Wherever permission is required, it has obtained it from the copyright holder.
-By submitting an article the author declares that he/she has read and accepts the Copyright Policy and has prepared the manuscript according to the Author Guidelines of the Yearbook.
-The author grants to the AYIL a royalty‐free, worldwide non exclusive license perform all necessary actions to publish first the article in an issue of the Yearbook.
-By submitting an article the author declares that he/she is the lawful right-holder of all rights under copyright in the article, and he/she reserves all right not expressly granted in this agreement.
Responsibilities of reviewers and editorial board members
-Reviewers shall keep all papers confidential and treat them as privileged information.
-Reviewers shall inform the Editorial Board of any conflict of interest, or if the double blind nature of the peer-review has been compromised.
-Reviewers shall complete their reviews within the allowed timeframe.
-The Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board members are responsible for making decisions on the content of the manuscripts submitted to the Yearbook.
-Our Yearbook uses a double blind peer review process. The Editor-in-Chief and members of the Editorial Board shall not reveal either the identity of authors of manuscripts to the reviewers, or the identity of reviewers to authors
-Editorial Board members shall not use content disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research without the author's prior written consent.
-Editors shall conduct ethical and fair investigation into ethical complaints.
Privacy policy
Names and addresses listed in this journal will be used exclusively for the service provided by the publication and are not available for other purposes or third parties. AYIL adopts the double-blind peer control system, so that there is anonymity between the evaluators and authors.
During the peer review, if there are two dissenting opinions on whether the paper should be published, it will be submitted to a third reviewer. The paper may be sent to a guest reviewer, provided that the specificity of the subject in the area justifies such.
The author will be notified about the suggested corrections and may correct them or justifiably maintain their original format.
Anonymous opinions (without identifying the reviewer) are available to the authors.
Copyright notice
Authors who publish their work to the AYIL should agree with the following terms:
-The journal adopts a Golden open-access policy. The authors are not charged with any submission, processing or publication costs.
-The authors reserve the copyright of their work, while the Yearbook gets the right of first publication. Third-party licensees are allowed to use the published paper immediately after publication as they wish, provided they retain the defined by the license copyright formalities, regarding the reference to its author(s) and its initial publication in the Yearbook.
-The Yearbook permits and encourages authors to submit their work online (e.g. in an academic depository or on their personal websites) after it has been accepted for publication, as this can lead to a productive exchange of scientific findings and ideas, as well as to faster and greater dissemination and indexing of published work (See The Effect of Open Access).
ePublisher
The National Documentation Centre (www.ekt.gr) is a national infrastructure. Since 1980, it actively engages in the collection, organization and dissemination of scientific and technological information in Greece and internationally. EKT’s strategic priority is the aggregation, organized online dissemination and preservation of quality-assured scholarly and educational content in a single research infrastructure.
EKT’s vision is “Access to Knowledge”. To this end it implements Open Access policies in research, supports the transfer and dissemination of scientific knowledge, collaborates with research, education and cultural institutions for the aggregation, organization and dissemination of digital content and provides innovative services in scientific information.
EKT provides reliable ePublishing services as part of its scholarly content aggregation and dissemination activities . Its integrated online ePublishing environment is developed with open-source interoperable technology. This affords the incorporation of EKT’s infrastructures into the continuously developing international infrastructure environment.
EKT’s ePublishing services (http://epublishing.ekt.gr/) are directed to public and extended public institution publishers of accredited scholarly journals. They include, most significantly, the organization, documentation and organized dissemination of metadata and content of scholarly journals, the training and consulting services on issues such as intellectual property, the standardization of editorial processes according to internationally accepted standards, the inclusion of content and metadata in international content indexers and harvesters via interoperable systems.
The Center of European and International Justice (CEIJ) is the principal sponsor of the American Yearbook of International Law (AYIL). The CEIJ is an international non governmental, non political and non profit organization dedicated to the law research, training, and teaching, established and operating as a non-profit, public interest society under American and European law. Its international headquarters have been in New York, since 1996. One of its essential purpose is to promote and disseminate knowledge among members of the international legal community.
The Center has two main departments: Department of European Union law and Department of International public and private law.
The publications of the Center has a main scope the contribution of access to legal information and research in European and International law. It does so through the activities of both Departments by using the Internet and other information technology. Some of the leading legal informatics experts in the world are working with the Centre.
The work of the Center it is also reinforced by actions gathered by the Universities as well as the businesses, by comparison, dialogue and collaboration between companies, public and private Institutions and civil society and making at the government and parliament proposals, ideas and suggestions for management of innovation policy that allows the country to seize the opportunities that new technologies offer.
The Center is non-partisan and independent. The Center organizes research programs, seminars, panel discussions, workshops, training courses and other activities relating to their use in research, culture, dialogue and peace among peoples in both national and international level.
