Author Biography
Clio Presvelou

Clio Presvelou was born in Nafplion. She studied social work
and then social and political sciences at the University of
Louvain in Belgium from where she also obtained her Ph. D.
with a study on Sociologie de la consommation familiale (Bruxelles:
Vie ouvrière, 1968). She is currently Professor of
sociology at the Faculty of Economic, Social and Political
Sciences of the Catholic University of Louvain and Co-director
of the Centre de Recherches Sociologiques of this University.
On several occasions she acted as a Consultant for
FAO and in 1975 she undertook a three-month mission to
six developing countries (Colombia, Mexico. Indonesia, Pakistan,
Tanzania and Tunisia) as a Consultant for the World
Food Programme of the United Nations to critically evaluate
rural development and the status of women. She has published
some thirty articles and several books in French or English—
some of her international publications have also been
translated into Greek, Spanish and Arabic.
