Author Biography
Haris Symeonidou-Alatopoulou, London School of Economics

Haris Symeonidou-Alatopoulou was born in Patras 1949. She is a
gaduate of the Athens School of Economics and Business Science
1972. She holds a Master of Science in Demography from the London
School of Economics and Political Science 1973. Her Master’s thesis
under the supervision of Professor D.V. Glass was on «Fertility
Trends in Greece». She has attended LSE seminars on «Methods of
Social Investigations» and «Applied Statistics in Sociology». At
other international seminars and congresses, she has prepared
research work on subjects of Demography with special reference to
«Fertility» and «Demographic problems and their socio-economic
consequences». During 1976-77 she was a regular visiting lecturer at
the Greek Productivity Center. She has been responsible for the
presentation of Demographic Trends and Greece’s future
demographic problems, in special seminars prepared for the Greek
Ministry of Agriculture. She has published several articles in scientific
magazines and she was a co-researcher for the Encyclopoedia of
Economics. She is a member of the European Centre for Population
Studies. She is now head of research in the National Center of Social
Research of Greece, in the field of Demography.
