Author Biographies
Nicholas V. Gianaris, Fordham University

Nicholas V. Gianaris earned the B.A. at the Graduate School of
Economics and Business of Athens, the LLB at the University of
Athens, and the M.A. and Ph.D. in economics at New York
University. He has taught in the United States and abroad. At present
he is professor of economics at Fordham University, Lincoln
Center, New York, Dr. Gianaris is a member of the American
Economic Association, Royal Economic Society (UK), Economic
History Association, and American Association of University
Professors. Listed in American Men of Science and similar
volumes, he has also received the NYU Founders Award for
scholarly achievements. He has contributed a number of articles to
both American and international economics publications and has
presented panel papers at symposia on southeastern Europe. Parts
of his previous book, Economic Development: Thought and
Problems (1978), were translated into French and Spanish by the
International Monetary Fund for use in the IMF Institute’s courses
on financial analysis and policy. His second book, The Economies
of the Balkan Countries: Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania,
Turkey, Yugoslavia will be published in 1982 by Praeger
Publishers (a Division of CBS), with international promotion by
Holt Rinehart and Winston.

Stergios L. Mourgos, University of New York

Stergios L. Mourgos holds a B.Sc. in Economics and Political
Sciences from the University of Salonica; a MBA from the
Graduate School of Economics and Business Sciences; a M.Sc. in
Labor Economics from the London School of Economics and he
received his MA and Ph.D. from New York Univeristy. He has
taught, among other schools, at Kean (State) College of New
Jersey; Fordham University at Lincoln Center and City University
of New York. Currently, he is associate professor of Economics at
the City University of New York and associate of the Center for
the Study of Systems Structure and Industrial Complexity. Professor
Mourgos has been a Fulbright scholar and has published
several articles in professional journals with emphasis on labor
productivity, income distribution, systems structure and industrial
complexity. He has presented papers in professional conferences
and made contributions to several TV and radio programs and
participated in numerous panel discussions. He has lectured in
several University campuses across the United States and is listed
in Marquis’ Who is Who in the East. Dr. Mourgos is a founding
member of the Greek Democratic Association of Scientists in
North America; a member of the American Economic Association,
the Metropolitan Economic Association, the American Association
of University Professors, the Omicron Delta Epsilon
International Honor Society in Economics, the London School of
Economics Industrial Relations Society and member of several
other professional societies.
