Περίληψη
Στο ιζηματογενές κάλυμμα του πυθμένα της Λεκάνης των Βαλεαρίδων, στη Δυτική Μεσόγειο, το Άνω Τεταρτογενές αντιπροσωπεύεται από ενδιαστρώσεις τουρβιδιτικών ακολουθιών, συχνά χωρίς δομή και μικρού πάχους ημιπελαγικές παρενστρώσεις πηλού. Οι ευστατικές μεταβολές της στάθμης της θάλασσας, κατά την τελευταία γεωλογική περίοδο, υπήρξαν ο κύριος παράγοντας ελέγχου της ιζηματογένεσης στη λεκάνη. Η ταχύτητα ιζηματογένεσης ήταν σημαντικώς μεγαλύτερη κατά τα τελευταία 50.000 έτη (42,4-54,6cm/Kyr) από την αντίστοιχη κατά το διάστημα από 50.000-120.000 έτη πριν από σήμερα (=9,7-13,4cm/Kyr).
