Abstract
The question of political corruption is usually focused either on normative and ethical approaches of the activities taking place within the public sphere or on its dysfunctional effects to economic development and democratic ethos. In this article, the question is dealt with at a different methodological and epistemological level. Political corruption is approached as an inherently political problem, deriving both from the inadequate separation between state and society and from the incompatibility between the normative codes valid in each of these spheres. In this sense, political corruption can only be examined within a more general theorization of the changing structure and functions of the capitalist state.
