Abstract
The objective of the study is to offer a detailed mapping of the ideological space in Greece by investigating the ideological preferences and priorities of political parties during the last decade. In addition, the study offers an analysis of voters’ ideological preferences for 2009. The empirical component of the study rests on the utilization of the Euromanifestos Project/PIREDEU database, and the 2009 European Election Study (EES). The data analysis of the parties’ European manifestos aims to depict on a common two-dimensional space the relative distances (or relative proximities) between different ideological categories and the positions of political parties. Similarly, through the analysis of the voter study we obtain an empirical account of the structure of ‘political demand’ within the Greek political system.
