The formal and informal pathways of the Greek labour market
Abstract
During the period 1990-2009, the institutions of the Greek labour market were marginally reformed, despite its weak performance, the economic integration and the gradual upgrade of labour market policies in the European agenda. This paper seeks to demonstrate that the path dependence of the Greek labour market and the complementarities between its institutions as well as other structural and institutional characteristics of the Greek economy hinder the institutional change. During the period 2010-2012, the Greek governments implemented important reforms in the labour market, which were included in the adjustment programmes of the Greek economy. However, it cannot be claimed that they formed a new path dependence of the labour market
