State and voluntary organizations during the economic crisis
Abstract
Following the outbreak of the economic crisis, voluntary organizations have faced significant funding constraints. As a result voluntary organizations are forced to compete with each other as well as with for-profit organizations. Meanwhile, governments experiment with alternative funding of social services by third-party investors, in order to reduce public expenditures. This article presents initially the international impact of the economic crisis on the voluntary sector. Next, the risks posed by the economic crisis on the sustainability and advocacy of Greek Non Governmental Organizations are elaborated.
