War and and sovereignty in the new millennium

Κωνσταντίνος Τσουκαλάς
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to consider the recent military endeavours, directly or indirectly under the auspices of the USA, in the light of its newly defined hegemonic functions. The obvious contradiction between the absolute military supremacy and questionable political foundations is examined. This is done particularly in regard with its normative effects on an overall hegemonic project in constant modification. Within the inherently traditional and highly unstable post-cold-war and postmodern context, the recurrence of allegedly "exceptional circumstances" seems to provide a handy solution to problems of normative legitimation. The current forms of hegemonic decisionismi are to be seen as symptoms of a highly innovative reinterpretation of traditional legal and political concepts and meanings.
