Mass media and agenda-setting: Current debates

Abstract
The present paper attempts a brief review of the scientific debate about the media-agenda effects to the public. The basic concepts that constitute the Paradigm’s theoretical frame are described as well as the main analytical distinctions for the study of the agenda-setting process. The main exogenous and intervening variables that limit or strengthen the impact of media upon the issue priorities of the public are marked. The presentation concludes to the perspectives regarding the debate about the relationship between the media and the public agenda, focusing in research questions about the process and the level in which the effects occur for and in research strategies for the investigation of this relationship.
