Abstract
Civil society in postwar Greece is examined from the standpoint of, first, social integration and, second, system integration. In terms of social integration, there has been notable progress in the field of civil, political, social and cultural rights between the pre- and the post-dictatorship period. From the standpoint of system integration, the most notable feature undermining civil society in the pre-dictatorship period was the colonization of most institutional spheres by the state and party system. During the post-authoritarian period, old imbalances are reduced and replaced by new ones. While civil society colonization by the state and the party system recedes, colonization by the market economy is on the rise.
