Abstract
This article applies an original experimental research design of retrospective evaluation in order to test the hypothesis, which stems from the professionalization of political theory, about the gradual convergence of the political rhetoric of the two major Greek parties, PASOK and New Democracy. The test takes place at the reception level and is twofold: it refers both to the possible ideological convergence from 1974 to 2007 and the possible confusion of the party identity of the political rhetoric during the same period. Preliminary research findings confirm the hypothesis, especially with regard to the confusion of the party identity of the political rhetoric, depicting a gradually increasing difficulty of the respondents to differentiate between the rhetoric of PASOK and ND during the period under investigation. At the same time, we discovered some interesting elective affinities of the rhetoric of the above-mentioned parties with the other parties of the Greek political system. Also, the added value of implementing experimental research designs has been highlighted.
