About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Goal:
The “Open Education” journal aims to publicise and disseminate information about, and research into, Open and Distance Education and Educational Technology and is aimed at researchers, academics, educators and professionals in Greece and abroad.
The journal:
In recent years, the development of alternative forms of education has created the need for deeper research into their design and application, which is based on inquisitive and scientific approaches in various scientific fields. The continuing changes and the rapid development of the Open and Distance Education, as well as the applications of the Educational Technology, have created a dynamic in the educational field, which, in its turn, seeks an identity and an independent field of research. The “Open Education” journal aims to highlight this dynamic and to map its different research and application dimensions, the relation between them, and the theoretical problems that arise.
The research fields of the journal:
In order to function effectively, Open and Distance Education – as both a set of pedagogical theories and an implemented educational practice - coexists with the Educational Technology. Open and Distance Education and the Educational Technology form part of a series of scientific fields, which strengthen and complete their theoretical development as well as their practical application. These fields are imprinted and expressed in the object and interests of the members of the Scientific and Editorial Board of the journal. They include the following: Open and Distance Education, Educational Technology, Adult Education, Comparative Pedagogy and Education, Information and Communication Technologies, Educational Policy and Lifelong Learning.
The contents of the journal:
The “Open Education” journal publishes theoretical texts, original research and scientific papers relevant to the subjects of Open and Distance Education and Educational Technology. In addition, it publishes book reviews and presentations, translations of papers, presentations on congresses, symposiums, meetings, seminars and educational activities.
It also presents the educational and research activities of the Hellenic and worldwide community as relevant to the fields of Open and Distance Education and the Educational Technology.
Peer Review Process
Each manuscript is reviewed by two reviewers of the scientific committee or other acknowledged researchers related to the scientific field, under a double-blind peer review process.
Reviewers' Checklist
Each reviewer of the Open Education journal has a list of criteria to review each paper for publication. However, apart from the content that they will have to judge by scientific/academic criteria, there are points that they will have to check shortly which have to do with the final form of the text.
