The contribution of eportfolio in the evaluation of distance students in tertiary institutions
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to present the contribution of eportfolio in the evaluation of distance students in tertiary institutions. Through a literature review we present the main research findings and we highlight the importance of eportfolio at strengthening interaction of students with their tutors and developing autonomy. The eportfolio provides insight learning, consistency of knowledge and reflection. It also enhances the skill of quick evaluation of the information and especially the online information. The assessment relates to the content of the course and is not a "punitive" procedure at the end of the learning process. To eportfolio can improve the turnaround time of the work students prepare, and contribute positively to their overall performance. Another argument is that eportfolio can serve as a professional development tool and mobilizes students to reintegrate into the working arena, with increased confidence in their abilities, but mainly can serve as a vehicle for assessing prior knowledge of learners and determines the relevance with the current curricula in a six-year university. A pilot implementation of eportfolio at Hellenic Open University and a survey on the results of this implementation would be of particular interest.
