Social Networking Sites as communication tools in Distance Learning: Hellenic Open University students’ point of view
Abstract
The utilization of Social Networking Sites (SNS) for educational reasons is a contemporary practice that attracts the interest of researchers, particularly as regards the desired compatibilities and its acceptance. Our study attempts an inventory of relevant trends that are expanded among the students of Hellenic Open University. In the research were investigated the factors that affect students’ availability for SNS utilization, in other words contribute to the shaping of attitudes. The sample was random. According the quantitative results there are not such influences derived from demographic traits like sex, age, housing area and level of study, such as also from experience of computer use. Instead, the use of SNS and students’ aspects on cooperative learning are strong prognostic factors for availability. Our similar hypotheses about students’ points of view on risks arising from SNS use and its satisfaction of studies don’t come true.
