Abstract
By the end of World War I Oswald Spengler published his Der Untergang des Abendlandes: Umrisse einer Morphologie der Weltgeschichte [The Decline of the West: Outlines of a Morphology of world History]. In a sense, Spengler foresaw the decline of modernity, a culture that has been established in Europe since the beginning of the second millennium. Leo Strauss’ essay “The Three Waves of Modernity” examines the history of Western political philosophy within modernity that, according to Strauss, came in three waves: Liberalism (Control over Nature),  Socialism/Communism (Control over Man), and Fascism (Perpetual Struggle: Control of Nature and Man); this is the first translation of Strauss’ essay into Greek.
