«Crisis», «anomy» and society: preliminary comments
Abstract
Undoubtedly, Durkheim’s concept of Anomy has been one of the most influential and inspiring tools for understanding social realities. However, the magic of the theory has led to its abusive use in contemporary public debates trying to unravel the social consequences of the present «crisis». The anomy theory is much too often seen as a holistic explanatory tool for current societal responses which are seen as pathological or abnormal. The aim of the present paper is to question such a paramount abuse of the theory in an era of intense inter-state and intra-state panoptican regulation of societal conflicts under the ideological recovery of Societal Defense.
