Demetrius Plessas, University of Michigan

Dr. Plessas is an Associate Professor of Environmental Planning and
Policy Analysis in the Department of Health Planning and Administration,
School of Public Health, The University of Michigan.
He holds a B.A. and M.A. in Economics, a MUP in Urban Planning,
and a Ph.D. in Resource Planning and Conservation. Dr. Plessas’
teaching and research are primarily in the application of economic
analysis to government policy problems and in the sectors of health,
environmental pollution, and regional development. He is the author
of numerous articles and research reports and has recently published
a book titled The Social Costs of Air Pollution in the Greater Athens
Area, published by the Center of Planning and Economic Research.
He has served as consultant to several governments and international
organizations.

Emmanuel-George Vakalo, University of Michigan

Mr. Vakalo is an Assistant Professor in the College of Architecture
and Urban Planning, The University of Michigan where he teaches
courses in physical planning and quantitative urban and regional
analysis. He received his primary and secondary education at Athens
College. He holds a B. Arch, M. Arch, and M.R.P. from Cornell
University and is currently working toward a Ph.D. in regional planning.
Mr. Vakalo has worked at the United Nations and with private
architecture and planning firms. In addition he has served as a consultant
to various city planning departments and planning organizations.
His special research interests are in the application of quantitative
methods to problems of spatial analysis, demography and
regional economic growth.
