Abstract

This report details a significant regional meeting organized by UNESCO's Division of Ethics of Science and Technology, held in Istanbul on March 5–6, 2007. The meeting brought together experts and university professors from six countries—Georgia, Greece, Cyprus, Malta, North Macedonia, and Turkey—to map and evaluate existing university curricula in Bioethics and the Ethics of Science. The author highlights the diverse pedagogical approaches identified, ranging from health-science-oriented programs to those rooted in philosophy and human rights. Special emphasis is placed on the dynamic presence of Greek and Cypriot universities, with ten undergraduate and postgraduate programs presented by prominent Greek philosophers. The report concludes by outlining UNESCO's ongoing efforts to establish a Global Ethics Observatory (GEObs) and develop a "Core Curriculum" to provide a universal framework for ethics education.
