Abstract

This article explores the philosophical relationship and thematic parallels between the French philosopher Henri Bergson and the Spanish thinker Miguel de Unamuno. The author examines how Unamuno, particularly in his seminal work The Tragic Sense of Life, engaged with Bergsonian concepts such as élan vital (creative evolution), intuition, and the subjective experience of time (duration). The study highlights their shared resistance to rigid rationalism and scientism, advocating instead for a "philosophy of life" that prioritizes the spiritual, the mystical, and the individual consciousness. The paper further analyzes their distinct yet converging views on memory, the "inner self," and the tragic struggle for immortality, illustrating how both thinkers sought to restore a sense of mystery and organic movement to a world increasingly dominated by mechanistic logic.
