Δυο σεισμολογικά δίκτυα, εξοπλισμένα με σεισμόμετρα ευρέος φάσματος, εγκαταστάθηκαν το 2001 και το 2003, με στόχο τη μελέτη της σεισμικής δραστηριότητας της ευρύτερης περιοχής της Σαντορίνης (Θήρας). Την περίοδο αυτή εντοπίστηκαν 330 σεισμοί σε απόσταση μικρότερη των 50 km από το κέντρο της καλδέρας. Χρησιμοποιώντας τη μέθοδο της αντιστροφής των χρονικών υπολοίπων προέκυψε ένα βελτιωμένο μονοδιάστατο μοντέλο ταχυτήτων των Ρ κυμάτων καθώς και βελτιωμένα υπόκεντρα για 135 σεισμούς με σφάλμα στην οριζόντια και κατακόρυφη συνιστώσα μικρότερο των 5 km. Οι σεισμοί αυτοί κατανέμονται κυρίως στην περιοχή του υποθαλάσσιου ηφαιστείου Κολούμπο (ΒΑ του νησιού Σαντορίνης) και σε βάθος από 5-18 km. Η ανάλυση σήματος των καταγεγραμμένων ηφαιστειακών σεισμών, επέτρεψε την ταξινόμηση τους, με βάση την κυματομορφή και το συχνοτικό περιεχόμενο στις εξής κατηγορίες: (1) υψίσυχνα γεγονότα, (2) χαμηλόσυχνα γεγονότα και (3) ηφαιστειακές δονήσεις. Από την ανάλυση στο πεδίο χρονου-συχνοτήτων των ηφαιστειακών δονήσεων, οι οποίες καταγράφηκαν σε τρεις σταθμούς, προέκυψαν 2 είδη αρμονικών ηφαιστειακών δονήσεων με ένα μέγιστο πλάτος στα 3-5 Hz και 8.5-10 Hz αντίστοιχα
