The testaments' code of the town of Goumenissa (1908)
Abstract
During the Tanzimat reform era (1839-1876) in the Ottoman empire, the Ecumenical Patriarchate introduced the application of the General (or Natio nal) Regulations for the Orthodox people. These Regulations had adopted various innovations for the community system, as the systematic organization of the local communities. In this framework Metropolitan Stephanos proposed in 1908 to the Greek-Orthodox community of Goumenissa (in the region of Kilkis) to keep an official code for the testaments. Only a part of this manu script has been preserved. It contains ten testaments and one statement. All these texts are published here.
