E-tutoring programs' integration in Greek School Education. Pierce e-tutoring online program. An Appraisal of Its Operation
Abstract
Online e-tutoring programs offer educational and developmental opportunities to students of secondary education. In this paper, an overview of the international literature relating to the practice of e-tutoring programmes is presented. Then, the Pierce e-tutoring online program, offered to the students of Pierce-The American College of Greece, will be presented. The specific program was launched on a pilot basis in the academic year 2012-2013. Since 2013-2014, it has been offered in three academic disciplines: Ancient Greek, Mathematics and Physics while in 2016-2017, Modern Greek Language was also included in the courses offered as part of the etutoring program. Through the Pierce e-tutoring online program, students have the opportunity to receive academic support in the evening, in the subject they wish. Furthermore, an assessment of the program will be attempted, outlining the multiple benefits for students not only in the subject-area of their choice, but also in their work
in an online environment, as this allows them to redefine the value of digital
technologies. Finally, several proposals related to the integration of such programs in the Greek educational system, contributing thus to the support of students and their families, will be made.
