Author Guidelines

The format of the manuscripts should conform to the MLA Handbook, 9th edition. Submissions should be typed in double spacing, including notes and works cited, and be in justified mode. The spelling used is UK.

Notes

Content notes should be avoided. If necessary, they should be placed at the end of the article before the works cited list.

Quotations

  • Double quotation marks are used for brief quotations in the text, as well as for words and phrases that are direct quotation from another text. In all other cases, ie. quotes within quotes, or special meaning of words, single quotations are used. This practice however should be avoided.
    • Quotations longer than forty words should be set off from the rest of the text and be indented. Quotation marks are omitted.
    • Follow accurately the spelling and punctuation of all quotations.

References and works cited

In parenthetical references, add the last name of the author(s) and the page number. Do not use name of cited author if this name appears in the sentence or phrase including or introducing the quotation; simply add the page number in the parenthesis. In case there is more than one source by the same author, include in the parenthesis the first main word of the title of the particular work mentioned as well.

The works cited list should include every work cited in the text and be continuous (not on new page). Please use one long dash [the em dash] followed by a full stop for writers’ name with more than one work. Entries are listed alphabetically according to the first main word of the title:

Dickens, Charles. David Copperfield
—.  Dombey and Son
