Abstract

Nowadays, by employing modern digital technologies, it is possible to record and share sounds, on a large scale, through digital platforms in a context of creating sound maps. Soundscapes are recorded by users and attributed to specific geographical points enriching the experience of potential listeners as they present environmental and/or urban elements giving a new dimension to the acquaintance and connection with local or global environments. The aim of this paper is to raise environmental awareness through the creation of an audio tour around the lake Orestiada of Kastoria. For this purpose, landmarks around the lake were rendered sonically and placed in the Google Earth graphic representation program. The application was evaluated by the students of the Department of Communication and Digital Media of the University of Western Macedonia, who, to a very high degree, characterized it as effective and useful in terms of environmental awareness, easy to use while at the same time they answered that id provides sufficient content information about lake Orestiada of Kastoria.
