Περίληψη

Η κλιματική αλλαγή είναι από τις μεγαλύτερες απειλές για την υγεία του ανθρώπου επηρεάζοντας συγχρόνως το οικοσύστημα, την παραγωγή τροφίμων, την υγεία και την ευημερία των πληθυσμών σε όλο τον κόσμο. Ο τομέας της υγειονομικής περίθαλψης ευθύνεται παγκοσμίως περίπου για το 5% των εκπομπών αερίων θερμοκηπίου, διαδραματίζοντας σημαντικό ρόλο στη βιωσιμότητα του πλανήτη. Η παρούσα ανασκόπηση συνοψίζει πληροφορίες και δεδομένα σχετικά με τον ρόλο των συστημάτων υγείας στην επιβάρυνση αλλά και στην αντιμετώπιση της κλιματικής αλλαγής. Σχολιάζονται στρατηγικές μείωσης των επιπτώσεων και παρουσιάζονται διαφορετικοί τρόποι δράσης που υποστηρίζουν την οικολογική «μεταποίηση» των συστημάτων υγείας ενθαρρύνοντας την επίτευξη στόχων βιώσιμης ανάπτυξης. Παράλληλα αναφέρεται ένα ευρύ φάσμα «πράσινων» πρακτικών που μπορούν να έχουν θετικό αντίκτυπο. Ωστόσο, μεμονωμένες και περιορισμένες δράσεις δεν αρκούν παρά μόνο αν συνοδεύονται από συστημικές στρατηγικές που μεταβάλλουν τον τρόπο ζήτησης και προσφοράς της φροντίδας υγείας. Οι βιώσιμες στρατηγικές εκτός των οφελών για το περιβάλλον, επιφέρουν βελτίωση στην αποτελεσματικότητα των διαδικασιών της φροντίδας υγείας και μακροπρόθεσμα οικονομικά κέρδη. Ο χώρος της υγείας έχει μια μοναδική ευκαιρία να αξιοποιήσει τη θέση και τους πόρους του, παρέχοντας μία ολοκληρωμένη στρατηγική, με σκοπό τη βελτίωση της υγείας του πληθυσμού και του περιβάλλοντος το οποίο επηρεάζει και από το οποίο επηρεάζεται.
