Περίληψη
Αρκετά συχνά, ο κτηνίατρος καλείται να επέμβει για την αποτροπή της σύλληψης ή τη διακοπή της κύησης μετά από ανεπιθύμητη σύζευξη μιας σκύλας. Καθοριστική σημασία για τον τρόπο αντιμετώπισης ενός τέτοιου περιστατικού έχει η λήψη λεπτομερούς ιστορικού και η διεξοδική εξέταση του ζώου προκειμένου να επιβεβαιωθεί η αναγκαιότητα της παρέμβασης. Στην περίπτωση που η μελλοντική αναπαραγωγή της σκύλας είναι ανεπιθύμητη, ως μέθοδος επιλογής θεωρείται η ολική ωοθηκυστερεκτομή που πραγματοποιείται κατά τον πρώτο μήνα της κύησης. Σε επιθυμία του ιδιοκτήτη για διατήρηση της αναπαραγωγικής ικανότητας του ζώου, ο κτηνίατρος παρεμβαίνει υποχρεωτικά με φαρμακευτικά μέσα διακόπτοντας την εξέλιξη ενός φυσιολογικού φαινομένου με επακόλουθες συνέπειες την πρόκληση παρενεργειών ή/και επιπλοκών. Η παρούσα εισήγηση επικεντρώνεται στα σύγχρονα φαρμακευτικά σχήματα δίνοντας έμφαση στη δοσολογία, στο χρόνο έναρξης, στη διάρκεια και στην αποτελεσματικότητα των αγωγών καθώς και στις προκαλούμενες παρενέργειες και επιπλοκές.
