FROM BITHYNIA TO GREECE ASPECTS OF SOCIAL, ECONOMIC AND CULTURAL LIFE IN THE PLACE OF ORIGIN AND SETTLEMENT THROUGH THE ARCHIVE OF ORAL TESTI¬MONIES OF THE CENTER FOR ASIAN MINOR STUDIES (KMS)
Abstract
This article is a first approach to present the life of the Greek inhabitants in the province of Bithynia, through oral testimonies of the refugees from Asia Minor from the archive of the Center for Asian Minor Studies. In¬formation was obtained on the occupations, the language, the education, the immigration as well as the social and economic relations of the inhabi¬tants in order to provide information regarding the social, intellectual and economic life of Greeks and Turks in the province of Bithynia. It also pro¬vides information on the settlement of refugees and highlights aspects of their rehabilitation and social integration in Greece, their contribution to the Greek economy and the efforts of these people to keep alive their past in Asia Minor, their culture and consequently the identity of Bithynia.
