Περίληψη

This article seeks to briefly map individual areas of literary studies that are emerging in the era of their transition to the digital age. The following six areas are listed: (a) transfer of printed literature to digital, (b) electronic lexicographic tools for the study of literary texts and their analysis, (c) development of databases, (d) creation and study of corpora in digital literary studies, (e) creation of literary websites, and (f) digital critical editions. A parameter of significant importance remains the shift from the instrumental utilization of new digital media and applications to their functional integration in research, teaching and study, as well as in their critical awareness. The article is based on Alan Liu’s distinction regarding the stages of invasion and establishment of each new human machine in our history (“media enchantment/colonization” and “media disenchantment”, Liu 2008). The article is accompanied by a commentary on the correlation of the structural-functional features of hypertext with poststructuralist theories of the text. It concludes with the need to open literary studies to interdisciplinary approaches through multifaceted collaborative schemes for the design, implementation and sustainable operation of digital projects.
