Abstract

Basilica A of Philippi, a typical three aisled transept basilica has already been related with the pilgrimage of apostle Paul. Besides the pilgrimage of the Apostle’s prison there existed another pilgrimage attached to the basilica north wall, which honored Paul’s miracle of the resurrection of a young girl according to the narration of Acta Pauli apocryphon. Α series of additions and rearrangements at the western part of the basilica may be related to the evolution of the structures that contained this pilgrimage; in addition to their contributing to the architectural history of Basilica A they assist to its dating as well as the understanding of the evolution of Paul’s pilgrimage in Byzantine Philippi.
