MATHEMATICS ANXIETY AND BELIEFS OF PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS: CHALLENGES, EXPERIENCES, AND THE IMPACT OF TEACHING PRACTICES
Abstract
The present study investigates the attitudes of prospective teachers towards mathematics and the possible development of mathematics anxiety in relation to their experiences. By analyzing the participants’ responses, it is evident that most of them had experienced mathematics anxiety at least once during their educational trajectory. The most important factor that affected this occurrence was their negative experiences as students. This created a sense of insecurity, led them to prefer theoretical subjects and avoid science-related ones, and also contributed to feelings of fear regarding their future teaching of mathematics.
